Adventures in App Development

One-Week Camp | Ages 9-12

Create, Code and Test Functional Apps

Starting off this course, students will learn the basics of programming in Thunkable, a block-based app development platform. Thunkable was founded out of programs developed at MIT.

Students will use Artificial Intelligence to create chatbots, and use databases to create picture apps. By the end of the week, students will create their own project to solve any problem they want.

More About This Course

Whether they want to design an app that solves a problem, helps a user, or is just plain-ol-fun, students learn the basics of computer programming including loops, conditionals, and variables and use Thunkable to master UI creation including buttons, text boxes, and images. No programming experience is required but being comfortable with some coding and math is recommended. No matter the skill level, our instructors and TAs are prepared to modify the curriculum to ensure that all students are engaged.

The Adventures Experience: Our Adventures camps give elementary level students a meaningful, hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of technology and design-thinking methodology; challenging them to collaborate with their fellow campers to create solutions to real-world problems. This course is recommended for students ages 9-12.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need prior programming experience to attend this course?

No. All students will have the same starting point of being introduced to programming and the basics of mobile programming languages. However, as this is an intermediate course, being comfortable with coding concepts and being strong in math subjects will be extremely beneficial.

Considering that some students might already have experience in programming, are different skill levels accommodated in this course?

DMA courses and curriculum are closely reviewed, improved and expanded upon each year. We specifically build advanced extensions and challenges that allow us to accommodate a range of skill levels and abilities. This along with a very skilled instructional staff and small student to staff ratio allows us to individualize, customize and offer plenty of 1-on-1 time for each student.

“I liked that we learned multiple app making skills and that our instructor was very easy going. It was a fun group of kids and a new experience.”
