More About This Course
Our Game Design courses will help you learn how to create your own video games using tools that that pros use. In this course, you’ll learn the basics of object-oriented programming using Java and use those skills to create events, enemies, and game mechanics. You’ll create your own server to build levels, implement your scripts, and challenge other students to beat you at your own game!
The Adventures Experience: Our Adventures camps give elementary level students a meaningful, hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of technology and design-thinking methodology; challenging them to collaborate with their fellow campers to create solutions to real-world problems. This course is recommended for children aged 9-12 years old.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need a Minecraft account?
Yes. Without it, he or she won’t be able to access any of the mods they create to test and play them.
Does my child really have to have programming or modding experience to take this course?
Some programming OR modding experience is recommended, but not required. If they know programming, we can teach them modding. If they don’t have modding experience, we can teach them modding as long as they are up for the challenge!
Will my child just be playing Minecraft all day?
No. Minecraft is built with Java, and we use Minecraft as a teaching platform for Java. We will actually be programming in Java and adding new elements to the game by making our own mods.
What exactly will my child be able to modify in Minecraft?
Note that we will be creating Server Side mods, meaning all the components added to the game will be event based. This means students can create new mechanics for a custom server that they will create (like armor that lets you fly, or scripted conversations) but they won’t be able to add new items to the game, like new blocks and weapons. Note that this is a change from previous years we offered the course, where we made Client Side mods.
“I loved having the resources to create code on my own and to make the mod that I wanted. My Quicksilver mod turned out really well!”
